ARTIST PROFILE

I graduated from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, Minnesota in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. After a needed break from the Midwest in 1996, I moved to Seattle, Washington. As I was developing a new style of illustration in 1998, I won first prize in a CD cover art contest held by a local radio station. This piece would be the backbone to my new digital style. Today I specialize in creating editorial illustration including characters for magazines, design firms, and cover art for record companies. I get asked all the time what medium I use and my response to people is that they are created using the computer. They often say "This is digital!" My technique is very simple. I scan a detailed sketch. Import the sketch into a graphics software application and draw and color the image using a Wacom drawing tablet. I then print my images on a variety of fine art papers. The digital medium to me is just another tool as are my paints and pastels. With all the design fundamentals in mind, I continue to challenge and push the digital medium in areas of fine art. In 2004 I find myself in Denver recently married and excited to see where illustration takes me.
